Environment

We encourage intelligent resource management within our infrastructures and through waste reduction training for our teams. We promote biodiversity in our fenua.

We care for global initiatives

Throughout the year, the InterContinental Bora Bora Resort & Thalasso Spa takes part in major international events dedicated to the environment and sustainable development, such as Earth Day, Earth Hour, World Ocean Day, World Water Day and the European Sustainable Development Week. We encourage our teams, guests, and local community to support initiatives that reflect our values and to actively participate in these meaningful events.

We care for coral preservation

In partnership with Espace Bleu, our hotel is deeply engaged in coral restoration and transplantation. We are currently doubling our coral nursery capacity from 600 to 1,800 fragments, with the goal of becoming fully autonomous by 2026. Marine biologists from Sea Narea also lead weekly coral-grafting workshops to raise guest awareness about the essential role of corals in marine ecosystems. These workshops are offered every week, free of charge, to all our guests.

We care for biodiversity

Our coral-restoration efforts within our lagoons have helped nurture an exceptionally rich marine biodiversity throughout the Resort. Our lagoonarium is home to more than 120 species, including a mega-colony of 17 clownfish with 17 anemones, introduced at the end of 2024. This introduction supports a scientific observation program aimed at better understanding the species and allowing the colony to expand naturally. In addition, the quality of our waters is certified under the Blue Flag label, ensuring purity with monthly sampling.

We care for natural produce

We have created a certified organic garden, labelled Bio Pasifika, where we grow fruits, vegetables and aromatic herbs used in our restaurants. Five beehives have also been installed to promote pollination and produce our own honeyover 40 kilograms harvested in early 2025. To help guests discover these installations and many other sustainability initiatives, we offer a complimentary Green Tour every Friday morning, providing an immersive look into our efforts for a more sustainable future.

We care for responsible waste management

Strict recycling policies ensure that our waste is processed responsibly. Our teams are trained in waste management, including sorting and composting. As part of the IHG and Pacific Beachcomber groups, we submit monthly reports on our consumption to measure and reduce our environmental impact. The GreenView and Green Engage reporting toolsof which we have achieved the highest Level 4 certification, guarantee responsible management across the Resort. In this ongoing effort, we have eliminated single-use plastics by replacing straws, installing refillable product dispensers in guest rooms, and bottling our own water in glass bottles using our onsite osmosis system.

We care for energy efficiency

Our hotel is a pioneer in the use of a private air-conditioning system relying on deep seawater. This revolutionary technology, known as SWAC (Sea Water Air Conditioning), is a sustainable solution that uses no harmful chemicals. We further commit to other eco-friendly practices, having achieved 80% LED lighting throughout our facilities. Moreover, 798 photovoltaic solar panels generate 11-12% of the electricity consumed on the motu each year.
